As discussions surrounding Digital Accessibility continue there’s one topic that keeps coming up – How to get our Design and Engineering teams to infuse Accessibility components for greater usability. Thinking on this topic and raising the questions along with suggestions in a few Accessibility forums, I was reminded that there are more Accessibility Checklists being created every year and are ready for download. I took a look at a few of them and compiled this list below. I hope here at Haymarket we can integrate the checklist as part of our process before we deliver our tools and services.
Some categories I thought that we could check along the process are Project Planning, Designing, Development & QA:
Here are a few PDFs and Links that may help.
Downloadable Accessibility Checklist PDF’s :
- Accessibility Checklist by Praxent: This PDF categorizes the different areas along the Accessibility chain and has link-outs for a deeper explanation of the selected item.
- A11y 12 Step Checklist by Deque: This is a quick checklist and may be best suited for Design and QA.
- Web Accessibility Quick Checklist for Designers by Deque: This is a 10 step checklist PDF slated for designers and is a bit more technical. The 3 page PDF name is actually Accessibility Heuristics and the checklist is at the end.
- Digital Content Accessibility Checklist: Explanation and How-To: As the title says it’s a How-To guide and would be beneficial for general Digital Content creation and the factors that would affect Accessibility.
Accessibility Checklist Links :
- Digital Accessibility Checklist for Courses by Angelo State University: When creating Courses this Checklist can be an easy resource. The UI has clickable expandable blocks with checked parameters, which makes for easy reading.
- Web Accessibility Checklist for Content Editors/Creators by Harvard University: As the title says, this is great for Content Editors/Creators. We should alert the department of this so they can start thinking of how their content can be accessible.
- Accessibility Checklist by Columbia University: This is a good general Checklist that’s helpful with dropdown categories. The left content panel of the webpage also has a few Digital Content guides that are very useful.
