Distribution Process and Best Practices

When using Push Method for post-distribution there are two different statuses you can use to share a post:

  1. Distribute post as a draft which is marked by default
  2. Distribute post as published which can be achieved by unchecking the “As Draft” box as shown in the picture below

The best practice would be to always distribute a post “As draft” and to use the default Distributor option for post distribution. This way of distribution allows content editors to review distributed posts in Draft mode before publishing which is in general better practice than reviewing it while it is published and available in the website feed for readers.

So, let’s explain both processes!

Distribute post as a draft

To distribute posts make sure you are logged in to WordPress Administration Dashboard with your credentials, choose a post you want to distribute, and open it. From the top menu click on “Distributor”

Distributor Interface – Distribute Post as a Draft

Type in the website you want to distribute to, or select multiple websites you want to distribute to – from the menu as shown in the picture above.

Make sure to leave the blue box with a checkmark which is selected by default as shown in the picture below and click on the “Distribute” button positioned on the left side from the checkbox.

When the distribution is finished you will see a message shown on the Distributor User Interface as shown in the picture below that the post was successfully delivered.

You can click on View as shown in the picture above to review distributed post. You also have to be logged in to WordPress Administration Dashboard on the other website to review the post as it was delivered as a Draft!

The category on the distributed post will be the default category that is in the settings of the site that you are distributing to.

Once you review a post, you can publish it. We strongly recommend publishing a post unchanged, meaning to publish it without unlinking it from its source. Also, it is very important to follow the best practices and to NOT remove Distributed Content article type from the distributed post.

More information on best practices when distributing a post can be found HERE.

Distribute post as Published

**NOTE** At the moment it is not advisable to distribute as published because of a clash with the Bibblio system. Distributing as published causes the destination url to pollute the origin’s bibblio recommendations. Best practice at this moment is to distribute as draft and login to destination site and then publish there

The step now differs from the previously explained process distribution. If you want to distribute the post as Published you have to uncheck the blue box as in the picture below.

When the distribution is finished you will see a successful message shown on the Distributor User Interface that the post was successfully delivered.

What to do If I don’t receive a message that the post was successfully delivered and if distribution failed?

If this happens it is very important that you report it properly!

The best way to report a problem with distribution is to include following when reporting an issue:

  1. URL of the post you were distributing
  2. URL of the website or websites you tried to distribute to
  3. Description of steps you did
  4. Screenshot or any other supporting files
